Chapter 3 Ruined
"Guess what girls?" mum shouted down the hallway. "What?" we asked completely uninterested. "You'll be staying home again by yourselves!" she called. I groaned, no not again! "I've been invited to a work party!" she persisted in a merry voice. "Uh oh.." I whispered remembering her good dress once hidden in the bin. No doubt she'd want to wear it! Now it was in her cupboard stained, trouble was bound to arise. "Next week you'll be babysitting," mum called to me. How could this get any worse! While mum left for work we stayed at home with our grandparents. When they weren't watching I snuck into mum's room and grabbed her dress. I locked myself in the bathroom and began to scrub the dress with soap and water. I used all the strength left in me until I was puffing and panting on the floor. What else could I try? "Aha!' I smiled and reached into the drawer. I pulled out a bottle of nail polish remover, it was bound to work! After pouring a large amount onto the dress I scrubbed. The dress faded, and faded and faded until it was as white as a piece of paper. I let out a shriek then covered my mouth hoping my grandparents hadn't heard. What had I done! I lay the dress on the bench and ran to get my paints. I wasn't ready to give up, not yet!
