After the Battle
#WritcoStoryPrompt17
The last bullet left the muzzle of his rifle with a deafening bang. It took with him all his hopes of survival.
He reached for the sharp knife held at his boot strap. He wasn't going out without a fight!

The bullet whizzed past his head grazing his cheek. He winced but not before swinging his knife to stab the man. The war was over...

Eighteen whole months of torture, pain and suffering. However they survived. There are no winners in war, only survivors.

After returning to base, he sees all his comrades, wounded but cheerful.

The man ruffled through his shirt and pulled out a photograph. A small but happy family. Everyone cried rivers when he left.

He then took out a coin. His lucky charm and his savior. It bounced off a bullet going for it chest one time, saving his life.

Finally he took out his knife, a little dirty from the blood. It was a gift from one of the generals. One who didn't make it out alive. Hope he can rest easy now.

As a sign of remorse of the fallen soldiers. The army prays for their peace in afterlife. Time to set out again, not towards another battlefield but instead to a warm, loving house. It was time to set out for home
