"It's a girl! "
The doctor gushed, placing the wailing infant on the woman's chest.
She heaved trying to catch her breath in the aftermath of her gruelling labour. Tears of pain mingled briefly with tears of joy before dissolving into tears of sadness.
She had once again given birth to a girl! Her third daughter. What would her husband and in-laws do to her now? She looked down at her infant. Her rosy cheeks were her greatest feature. Her pink skin was as soft as silk. Her face pinched up into a beautiful frown as she nuzzled her face into the curve where her breast lay. But the thoughts of what would happen to her still lingered through her mind as she brought her child to her breast. She watched as the child calmed down once she started to feed. She shuddered as the placenta came out. All worries drifted away from her mind as she watched her baby girl feed. "They will have to accept you. Maybe you are destined to be a girl for a very important reason." She lowered her face to her baby and kissed her soft head briefly. "My beautiful baby girl. You have a great future that awaits you. And I will do anything to make you fulfill it." Suddenly, her child smiled at her and in that moment, she had a vision. A beautiful green eyed girl was sitting in a field. The sun rays were everywhere. All of a sudden, the sky darkened. The girl turned around and looked at the sky with her arms up. Blue smoke rose above her as she concentrated, her hair whipping to the side in the wind. The clouds dissapeared, and the sun returned. The girl sat back down and flowers began to bloom. Her vision was interrupted when the doctor announced, "Your husband has come to see you."
