Emotions don't discriminate...why should we !
Hurt, abuse, depression, trauma, heartbreaks, pain, suffering doesn't distinguish between genders. Men are as much affected by them as women are. It's just that men have always been portrayed as the strong, the macho, the one who takes everything at his stride, the leader, the provider, the decision maker..... As they say..."Mard ko dard nahi hota" or " Boys/Men don't cry". Whereas women have always been portrayed as emotional, vulnerable, shedding tears, weak, requiring support, nurturing, caring, loving, god fearing....As they say... don't cry like a woman.
Over a period of time we have divided the genders not only as per the work, ability, roles etc but also as per the emotions and in this quotient I think both have been duped. Women are expected to just cry...when you are hurt cry, pain cry, feeling angry cry, happiness cry, cry and crib these are the two things they are allowed and free to do. They can't shout, they can't laugh heartily, they are not supposed to be strong for themselves and take a stand for themselves or others, they aren't suppose to...
