love and death in the apocalypse
it was then the sun was setting silloueting the twilight landscape of the tops of the buildings. sadly I could only immerse myself into the beautiful view for a short amount of time, because I heard footsteps behind me. my dog, looked uncomfortable so I gave him a scratch behind the ears and said "well shall we get going now, angel will be waiting for our return. " max replied "woof woof." we walked to the bottom of our favourite statue and left. I walked to the top of the subway stairs and looked down shocked by the deep black nothingness. max took a few steps back before I encouraged him to follow me in. he had always hated the new route I had planned of course through the subway, I had no choice really all the toxic gases blocked our way round the main block. so I planned this one,as I stepped down one step I heard grumbling, I took another step and a deer came running out alarming max and making him whimper. I stroke him from head to tail to reassure him he was okay. we went further in until the floor became flat. we heard distant dripping and weeping. I told max to be quiet and we silently tiptoed through the subway. something caught maxes attention on the right and all I saw was one grasp round maxes neck and he was gone. into the mist I heard his whimpers in the hazy mist and followed them. I heard a whimper then a growl then a snatch. max came running to me with blood and torn rags hanging on his fur. "oh no, oh no please max." I checked his scars and his gums and there, there was a small faint lump just behind his back tooth. I heard a little growl emerge from his throat and he fell asleep. I put him down and prepared for my enemy, the thing jumped on me trying to bite my lower neck. I struggled it of me and sent to shots from my revolver into the buggers neck. something sharp struck my back and tore my first layer of skin right back. I felt a bite in the back of my neck and I pulled my knife out from its holster, I stabbed the furry wet creature in the side and tossed it into one of the waiting benches.it barked in pain and lay there I turned round to check on max but he was gone. I carefully approached the creature knife in hand I grabbed it by the jaw to slimmen the chances of being but by it. I shone my torch at it and it was the same furry face I saw when I was walking to my favourite statue. "please no please no it can't be," I wimpered and mourned and exclaimed "I'm sorry max I'm sorry."
