What Exactly Is Revelation?
I never really dwelt on what revelation really meant. I was ok with the biblical perspective of revelation I was fed in church and the random meanings that Oxford Dictionary fed me. Until last night.

Last night, I sat in my spot in the front row with my family at the church. There really wasn’t anything spectacular going on. It’s just the regular midweek service, one would think while entering into the church. In fact, I was among those people.

That night, it wasn’t just one. It was different. I was a bit drowsy, thanks to my severe cold. In spite of this, I tried my best to focus on the pastor as he preached. IT WORKED.

The fact that the sermon held my attention, to contrite my weakness took me by surprise.

The pastor was preaching on revelation as we read the word. I’ve heard this preaching countless times. I knew it by heart already. But, I don’t know something had diagonically shifted in my mind as I listened. That’s something, I will share with you as you read.

Prior to that day, I had always thought revelation came through words on a page. It was a belief I’d held on to for so long a time.

Now, I realised that it wasn’t as I had thought. My pastor said, ‘The level of your understanding determines how the revelation works for you’. That stuck.

Revelation springs forth from illumination. But you can't be illuminated by what you don't have. Therefore thirst for truths undiscovered.

I realised, just reading the words in the bible was not enough. You need to eat it. I can hear some of you saying, but it’s not food. But it’s actually a food. Even Jesus says so.

You could read Genesis chapter one verse one, a million times but no revelation will come forth. You’d just be seeing those words. Nothing more. You will still be lost at the secrets the verse may hold. Until you eat it, you can’t understand it, and no revelation springs forth.

OK, THIS SEEMS LIKE A LOT OF DRAMA.

It’s not.

During the examination, you read for good grades. You actually don’t have the patience to understand what you have read deeply. You deploy all reading tactics to get that grade. Then, what happens? Most times, you get high scores. Sometimes, you’re at the bottom of the food chain. You just fail.

When this happens, you grumble. This lecturer is so mean. That teacher just wants to fail me. I read this course, like my life depends on it, yet he gave me such a low score? Look at my classmate, I’ve never seen him read, how did he pass?

Does the above sound familiar? If yes, I will tell you why you didn’t get your desired grades, despite how fierce you read.

YOU READ THE WORDS ONLY, BUT NEVER LEARNT ITS APPLICATIONS. YOU’RE JUST A STUDENT AND NOT A LEARNER.

Until you learn how to apply it, what the words splattered on your books mean and how to apply them, you can’t understand them.

Just like, a manual can be read a billion times, but if you don’t get how it can be applied to the new gadget, you’d keep looking lost.

To make the most of your exams, learn to understand the words that you’ve written down. Break into bits and put it back as a whole.

Oh, the joy I got when this secret came like a dream to me last night. The words of my pastor seemed to ignite my thinking bulb and I could glean this gem from it.

I’ve realised that revelations don’t come from careless readings, but by intentional studies. Be intentional.

So many of us, like living in a rush. We’re always in a hurry. The best of revelations don’t come that way. You need to be calm.

We don’t just need revelations in our spiritual life or to make the most of our redemptive powers in Christ. You need it in your business and career.

There are so many people, who’ve read every poetical dictionary there ever was, but never written a poem in their whole life. Oh, they’ve tried, but couldn’t. Along the way, they gave up, whining that it wasn’t for them. It’s not their cup of tea.

Yes, people are born with the talents, but still, you can write from lack of talent. They barely never ate the words they’d read, by breaking it into bits and learning them like a toddler learns A, B, C. They just read the words as a story book. And that’s why they don’t glean anything from it.

In that same way, there are people who read the comments on a post only to be confused at the end. Revelation is spiritual, yes, but the way to build is a habit that starts from the mind.

Understand before you talk. Some people speak with dual purpose. How do you know their intentions, if you don’t understand what they say?

WHAT EXACTLY IS REVELATION?
Revelation is the gem you get from understanding (the bit to bytes) all you've read and seen.
