The oriental Dwarf Kingfisher is a very beautiful bird in the group of continental birds.

Tiboti Khandya, a species of birds that can be seen in the time-honored Maharashtra Konkan. And many such birds are also present. And especially during the three months of June, July and August, a large number of bird lovers come from all over the world.

The Konkan, blessed with nature, is a favorite destination of many creatures. The Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher is a very beautiful bird in the group of continental birds. Hundreds of these Tibetan migratory birds migrate from Bhutan, Kerala, Sri Lanka to the Konkan in May every year for the last several decades. Their migration here is considered a sign of the arrival of rains. They are known as 'Glory of the Jungle' because of their attractive colors and attractive appearance. Normally a bird has four toes, but this bird has only three toes.

June to August is their mating season. The location of the nest is determined by the mating of both males and females. This nest is made by burrowing into a clay pot next to a stream. During the courtship period, the male bird feeds the female by bringing her various kinds of food like insects, lizards etc. After mating, the female usually lays two to five eggs in the nest. During the incubation period of about 18 days, the male takes care of the feeding of the female. Meanwhile the chicks come out of the eggs. The chicks are very hungry during this time. These little ones are fed small food like panchex fish, spiders, clever ones. As the chicks get older, they are fed a square diet of snails, lizards and crabs. From dawn to dusk, the continent is constantly searching for food and filling it for about 15 to 18 days. The full grown chicks flew out of the nest, ending the relationship between the chicks and the breeders! This bird has been using the same burrowing nest in the dense forest for many years.

The Konkan and the Western Ghats are a paradise for thousands of known and unknown birds, insects, butterflies, animals, plants and vines. However, now this is the paradise that is likely to be deserted and ruined according to the government's development (?) Plan. So the challenge is to preserve this precious natural habitat.
