My Crossover
As the warm December sun kissed the face of Mother Earth, I knew, I knew deep down in my heart that it was my best month yet. Bonfires were lit with singing and dancing and food was in abundance as if it was harvest season. December didn't feel like a month, it felt like a city, it felt like paradise as peace, joy, love and smiles walked gloriously into the streets, into people's homes and hearts - euphoria! Yes, that's the feeling.
But on the last day of the month, something remarkable happened.
An unknown number called me. 'Dzidzornu, hope you're going for the watch night service?'
The angelic voice gave me butterflies in my stomach. It was Adwoa's, the gorgeous damsel I've been proposing love to for the past 3 years and always playing hard to get.
'Hello, Adwoa,' I said with my forced deep voice. 'Yes of course. I believe you're on your way?' I asked.
'Nah, I'm home. You know my parents travelled and my car is at the repairer's. Can you pick me up so we go together?' Her sweet voice came again.
'Sure, I will be there in 10 minutes'.
I hopped into the grey and black Hyundai Sonata my dad gifted me on my 21st birthday and set off to her residence.
Upon arrival, she came out wearing her signature traditional cropped top, a jeans skirt and a pink Nike Vapormax holding a basket and asked, 'When was the last time you did something silly?'
'What?' I exclaimed.
'Let's go to the Central Park, I've got something to show you'.
There I was, torn between going for the 31st watchnight service and going to the park. Knowing the profane activities that happen there, my Christian principles wrestled with my bad boy character and the latter won. I smiled, winked and beckoned to her, 'Let's roll'! And of course, I played 'I Gotta Feeling' by Black Eyed Peas in the car to honour the moment. We reminisced about years past especially about 2018 till we arrived.
As usual, the place was filled with people doing the unthinkable. She laid a huge napkin at a quiet area and brought out food flasks and drinks from the basket. We wined and dined, talked and laughed. We then laid on the lush green lawn and watched the stars entice the moon with their dazzling dance - nature in love! How awesome, how adorable! I grabbed the opportunity and proposed love to Adwoa once more. I barely finished my sentence but she read between the lines and said no with a cute smile. I was distraught but kept my calm.
A few seconds to midnight, she drew closer to me, removed my glasses and whispered something softly in my ear. The words were priceless! And at the stroke of midnight, on New Year's day, the feeling was one I will never forget - I was in seventh heaven! She drew closer once more, this time with a much stronger passion. Her innocent but sultry eyes were lit with a sensual desire as we locked eyes. Her warm hands gave me a thrilling sensation as she wrapped it around my neck. Then all of a sudden, I felt a great light upon my face and a familiar hand slap my back multiple times.
'Get up and go clean your father's car' my mother shouted from beside my bed. Apparently, she slid open the heavy curtains in my room for the 11 AM light rays to play on my sleepy face. How awful!
'Oh ma' I grumbled.
'Oh fiw' she mocked me. 'Hurry up and go clean your father's car, we're going to grandma's'. She commanded and left.
I sat at my bedside, laughed at myself and mumbled, 'What a way to enter the new year!'
