Why We Celebrate Eid-Ul-Adha!?
Eid-Ul-Adha is one of the 2 major festivals in islam. It is celebrated on 10th day of the last month of the islamic calender Zul-Haj.It is celebrated in rememberence of Prophet Ibrahim's (A.S) Sacrifice.
Prophet Ibrahim (A.S) and his wife could not have a child. So,he was forced to marry another woman.Who gave him a son Ishaq(A.S).
His first wife,Was sad and prayed to Allah for a child.Soon Allah gave her a son (Ismail A.S).Then Allah commanded Ibrahim A.S to leave his first wife and her son into a desert Becca present day Mecca. So, he left them there. His wife Hajra was sad but she let him go because it was the command of allah.Soon Baby Ismail(pbuh) started crying out of hunger and thirst but that desert had got nothing. Not even a single drop of water. She kept her baby down.she ran in search of water and walked between the 2 hills,Saffa and Marwa 7 times. The baby rubbed his feet while crying. After that Allah ordered His angel Jibreel to dig a well exactly under the feet of the baby.He put his one wing into the ground.Soon water started flowing from that point.Hajra saw the water and said "Zam Zam!" which means stop. The water stopped and she drank water from it.Usually the travellers would never stop at becca but now they stopped there and drank water and instead they gave food to Hajra.Soon people came to live here. After,Many years Ibrahim A.S Was travelling from there and he saw that becca had changed a lot.He thought.Maybe his wife and his son are alive. So,searched them there and found his son.Who had become a young man now. After sometime.Allah ordered Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail A.S.Ibrahim A.S was very sad he told his son about it.And Ismail(pbuh) being an obedient servant of god agreed with it.Ibrahim took his son to the place were they would sacrifice animals. While he was going there.Satan stopped him but Ibrahim A.S didnt listen to him and threw 7 stones on him and moved on.Soon the son and the father reached there prophet ibrahim took his knife which was really sharp. But when he tried it on Ismail(pbuh) it turned blunt and didnt even give a scratch to him. Then the prophet sharpened the knife and this time when he tried it on Ismail(pbuh). He saw that Ismail(pbuh) wasnt there Instead he had sacrificed a sheep. And then Allah said to him that it was a test and he had passed it.Allah had sent a sheep instead of Ismail(pbuh). This is why muslims celebrate this day and sacrifice their beloved animal for Allah. They not only sacrifice their beloved animal but also those desires which make them far from Allah. They prove that they can sacrifice anything for Allah.
They also distribute the meet of that animal to all the their neighbors and relatives. And especially to those who cant afford to sacrifice means the poor people so that they could also celebrate this day happily.
