Mirror child part 1
#WritcoStoryPrompt9
The cry was faint but I heard loud and clear it as I walked past the dark bushes. My steps faltered. It was late and I wasn’t sure if it was a smart thing to stop and inspect the source. But curiosity got the best of me and I peeked into the bushes. I saw the corner of a old cardboard box. I picked it up and dusted it off. I still heard the crying and easily assumed it was a baby or someone was pulling a prank on me. When I opened it, it was everything but what I expected. It was a mirror, a little girl crying with her back facing me in the center of it. A part of my heart aches for her instantly but more so I was confused. Who was she and why was she crying? She finally spoke and cried out “Daddy, where are you?”. I paused instantly. Her words hit a nerve. It reminded me of when I was left all alone. But I couldn’t help her, I’m not who she’s looking for. I put the mirror back and tried to put the box back where it was. She begged me “Please don’t go”. I stopped and grabbed the mirror again. She was looking at me but that’s not what shocked me. She was me but younger.
