We have all had moments in life when we have felt like quitting. In our rapidly changing world, these feelings can be particularly acute, as many of us face multiple competing pressures from a young age. Choosing a career, managing relationships, or simply trying to carve out a path in life that makes sense for us can be a draining process. At points, that process can leave us feeling drained and uncertain about the direction we are heading, and the feelings of paralysis and overwhelm can cause us to want to throw in the towel and give up.
For me, as a person who has always tried to do the ‘right’ thing, this sense of purposelessness can be particularly acute. I am the type of person who has often put the needs of others before their own, and so when the path I have chosen has not turned out as expected, it can leave me feeling like I have failed myself and others. In those moments of vulnerability, the impulse to stop and quit can be overwhelming.
