A tale of a twisted tail

Social isolation had forced an eerie silence upon them. While fear haunted their existence, one question was at the forefront.
When was this going to end? And will they ever get back to normal. Will normal, still be thr same normal they know and loved? Or will a new definition of normal, define us. These were some of the questions that haunted them. She was more perturbed by questions like how will they manage their finances? Should they take the moratorium for their EMI. She lay awake at nights, sweating in the heat, thinking that the lockdown will surely squash them, if not then, their hopes and dreams. Her mind whirred with thougts, she had to keep the kids entertained, the house clean, out food on the table, the chores were endless. And she often, felt overwhelmed by them. It was a vicious cycle, she couldn't sleep at night because of them, and she couldn't operate to her full capacity in the daytime, and it fed off each other. She just needed one good nightnof sleep. And, that will clean the slate, so to speak. But the sleep of silence was elusive. She heard a noise, while coaxing her brain to sleep. She got up to investigate, and realised it was her pet dog, who was moaning. "What happened, Disco?", she asked, stroking him. He looked at her with love in his eyes, but, obviously, stayed mute. She petted him a few more times, and went back to bed. In the morning, the when Disco licked her face, waking her up, she felt something was amiss with him, but couldn't place a finger at it. Her morning chores continued, broken by occassional stray groans from Disco. When she had a few minutes, she sought him out, and observed he was unable to move his tail. When he tried to move it, it obviously hurt him, as he yelped in pain. "Disco can't wah his tail as it is hurting him, but he can't help himself, either", she remaked to ber husband."He has been so excited ever since the lockdown started, that he has not stopped wagging his tail", she stopped talking as realization dawned upon her. Disco - so pleased about having his family home, had hurt his tail,as he wagged it so much! And yet, the pain couldn't prevent him from wagging it further. She looked at him, with a new respect, that despite being a dog, one that cannot speak, he had taken thr words away from her. Here she was stressing over chores and what not, and here he was, her dog, tongue lolling on the floor, moving his tail in minisculic movements, yet happy. She realised that Disco had taught her a lesson, while we can't change the lockdown, we can change the prism through, which we view it, and she wanted to use Disco's prism. Be happy, even if it hurts, be grateful.
