“Raging Bull” is not a film about boxing but about a man with paralyzing jealousy and sexual insecurity.

Raging Bull (1980) Directed By Martin Scorsese

Plot summary : A middleweight ascends through the ranks to achieve his first shot at a boxing title. But his personal life, laden with paranoia, jealousy and rage, scuttles his professional growth.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like it in my life. Scorsese makes pictures about the kinds of people you wouldn't want to know.

My favourite Scorsese films often change, but Raging Bull plunges me into the ring to face all the demons that plague the culture of machismo along with all the emotional impotence that corrupts such a psyche. There is unquestionable ugliness in Raging Bull, but there is astonishing power, too. It may shock you; it will definitely drain you. You won't soon forget it. Raging Bull is a fascinating exploration of the mind of an emotionally disconnected man. It's brutal, crass and impossible to look away much like a real boxing match.

Scorsese and De Niro built up such a rapport that the actor became an extension of the director's vision.

Easily one of the most powerful films I have ever seen. #films
