Night Terror
Softly, softly, footsteps creeping
that awakes me from my sleeping
footsteps that sent me leaping
leaping from my bed
Shaking and quaking with such fright
the clock loudly strikes midnight
the walls aglow with unearthly light
an unearthly light that blinds me
A shadow forms against lighted wall
menacingly my name it calls
my heart explodes and I fall
I fall upon the floor
I crouch low beside my bed
my whole body filled with dread
I look up into eyes of red
eyes of red that peirce me
And out of its shadowed mouth it roared
into my deepest soul it bored
it shook me to my inner core
it shook me forevermore
In its eyes I saw there hate
this shadow demon that held my fate
that would drag me down to hells gate
drag me down to deepest depths
And as I cowered on the floor
an angel burst through my chamber door
and to the shadow demon he did soar
he did soar on feathered wings
And in a flash of blinding light
they flew out of the window into the night
it was such a frightening sight
a frightening sight indeed
In the morn I awoke in my bed
with a throbbing in my head
"It was all a dream" I softly said
I softly said to no one
"No" the angel quietly replied
it was then that I knew
that I had died
(For Edgar Allen Poe)
