Mom left too early,
If I had known that she would go so early,
I would have held her close,
And print her beautiful face in my mind.

But the universe loves to toy with us.

Never seen them for 15 years.
Brother and sister.
They found me,
But in their quest for more,
I was left alone once again.

The quiet nights,
The unanswered calls,
The messages that were never read.

Sister went to a foreign land,
In search of a better life.
Maybe, she's never coming back,
I've lost hope.

Brother stayed behind,
He promised not to be like her,
But he's schizophrenic,
Am I also?

I reached out,
In need of comfort,
But he wasn't found!
He too was interested in greener pastures.

And I wonder,
Is money more important than relationships?

I waited for my messages to be read,
Yes, he had read them,
But, lo! ignored yet again!

The unanswered calls.
Was history repeating itself?

No friends,
Even family was a joke!

Only my poultry birds
Gave me comfort...

Then I remembered,
Sister was expecting a little one,
But I was not told.

I asked after her wellbeing,
Gently prying,
I wanted her to tell me the good news.
But it never came.

Maybe, I wasn't so important to them,
15 years is enough to tear any relationship apart.

I chuckled!
Till this day, I'm still chuckling.
Because we only come from the same womb,
But have different fathers!

Now, I understand...
