One Year Yesterday
The turning point was yesterday,
One warm, but gloomy yesterday that happened to change everyone and everything, inside and out.
To be exact I mean a year ago,
But it feels scarily like yesterday.

One year yesterday I had rushed back to pick up the worst of my life;
Spluttering and stumbling with shame and guilt,
Certainty and euphoria,
It was only yesterday,
A year yesterday.

Everything’s now in the past,
Everything’s happened but it was just one moment I still cannot change when it haunts me in my dreams,
Awake and asleep,
Surrealism and imaginary,
One year yesterday it was.

I lay in my bed the night afterwards but a year apart,
The same sunken feeling drifts off one minute to then half return the next.
It was only yesterday,
One year yesterday I should say and nothing can change,
But it feels scarily just like yesterday,
Not a year apart.
