That Everyday Journey...
The day I came to know,
You took the 7:00 p.m local,
My heart skipped a beat,
For I took the same.
Everyday after office,
I waited at the tea stall,
Outside the station gate.
The moment you would get off the rickshaw,
And hurried towards the platform,
I sipped the tea in one gulp,
Bothering not of fresh blisters.
Then I paced behind you,
Keeping distance a little.
I know you were aware of me,
Following you at close heels,
Still you didn't bother to speed up.
When the train would arrive,
You would jump in to reserve a seat,
Telling other fellow passengers,
It was for a friend of yours.
When the train would begin to rattle,
You would pass down a shy smile,
Which meant I could take the vacant seat.
Given this opportunity,
Our eyes did the talking.
We talked of love and eternity,
And the beauty of the moon,
Until one day that I didn't see you.
Every day after that I waited for you,
But stopped doing so,
When an acquaintance of yours,
Told me of your demise.
