The Reasons Why
The Reasons Why
by R.
like an old blown out TV
like a high school
forgotten
in and out of focus
as we went along
me and Loretta &
a sea of umbrellas
the wind of a rock star
deceptive and believed
and a good day that died.
it was me and Loretta
in a day stuck in neutral
planning escapes
and went the wrong way.
with good and bad
answers
we followed the planet
we were certain we'd get
reasons with no regrets
for staying alive
high schools
and old cars
a '67 Chevy
that took us home
known and unknown
amused and alive
I threw the main switch on
it put Loretta in the spotlight
crying
"I can't handle this!"
"I can see what I am!"
"I can see what I am!"
We were on "Dancing for Dollars"
we danced til we were forgotten
We went into all blue
Heard a voice from
offstage
Saw the silouhettes go
Maybe we made it
Maybe we didn't
As a life that unfolds
As a song that gets old
and no reasons why.
