If life was gentle,
it’d teach us lessons
before the test.
If life was gentle,
people would drift
in and out of our lives
peacefully, not violently.
If life was gentle,
there would always
be time for goodbyes.
If life was gentle,
we wouldn’t have to worry
about wars and blood
and money and disease
and abuse.
If life was gentle,
first loves would be
last loves.

And if life was gentle,
we’d find out
who we really were
before hardship
wore us down,
leaving us bitter.
