stargazing
we’d lay on the ground
watch the night paint itself
framed by branches catching the last rays of sun
we’d welcome an opening band
comprised of fireflies
a prelude to the constellations,
and as the stars climbed vaulted skies
see the cosmic cathedral illuminated
run my fingers through the grass
instead of your hair
the emptiness next to me
though you should be there
you’re gone
i wait for orion alone
