MONKEY LOVE

It's the first day of valentine's week,
Rose day,
Couples are shyly exchanging roses.
There is love in the air.

I sit on the grass in the park
Sketching a scenery
While my friends are affectionately Cozing on the benches, in the cool of the trees.

I glimpse at the tree on my right
Two monkeys catch my sight
Eating bananas with pleasure
Observing all this Cupid struck humour

One monkey finishes his
And tosses the peel.
It lands on the vendor's barrow.
Oh, so that's their supply source!

Then the monkey performs a comical act.
In a swift motion,
He hangs from the tree and sezies the rose!
The couple underneath stares in confusion,
At the beau's empty fingers still curved into a hold!

But there he doesn't stop.
From tree to tree he hops,
Collecting the roses from the hands,
Hanging from the branch on top.

By the time he ends taking a round of the circular park,
All the couples seem astounded,
Still trying to comprehend
What had just happened.

I stare in surprise at the monkey.
He has now sprung back to his mate.
He holds the roses in form of a bouquet,
And poses like offering it to his date.

The other monkey, maybe a female one,
Cocks her head and turns to him,
For a moment, she stares at him
With a clueless expression.

She tries to hold her gift ,
Maybe after a quick thought,
But her finger gets pricked
and She leaves, miffed.
The poor monkey throws away the flowers in distraught.

The female monkey returns however.
She has brought two bananas with her.
The male monkey takes one,
And once again they eat together,
Like a sweet happily ever after!

Thoroughly entertained, I wonder,
Which couple I love better,
The duo on the tree munching bananas joyfully,
Or the duo on the bench
Known to be a part of my family!
