Simple Lady
There were no awards.
No great banners
or signs.
No websites or
shows.
She never had any of those.
There were no marches.
No grand speeches.
No standing ovations.
She kept herself quiet.
There were hard days,
of blistering suns.
Endless nights
with screaming young.
Hard times with no food.
Painful hours,
when love was lost.
She kept her head high.
I never saw her cry.
She never boasted
or puffed herself with pride.
She simply raised her family
and went along for the ride.
I never heard her scream,
nor yell a single curse.
With a gentle voice,
and the grace of daisy,
She created a horde of family.
Brought food to the hungry.
Gave Love to the empty.
Instilled Hope to the lost.
And faith to the wondering.
All from her front porch.
When the ride was done.
A town shut down,
a crowd from miles
gathered round.
To honor the loving life,
and boundless gifts,
Of a Simple Lady.
