POV: A NIGERIAN STUDENT
You really think it's easy, don't you?
With my alarm by 5am, I am up.
I go down on my knees and say a simple prayer.
I sit down for a few minutes and just overthink,
Without solving a thing I sigh, and get on my feet.
My toothbrush, a weapon to cleanse my bad breath of yesternight.
With heaviness in my spirit, I drag my feet against the ground with my towel in hand.
With a bucket of water I washed off the stress of yesterday's lectures.
With each bowl of water poured on my face, I had flashes of unending debit alerts.
I sighed again the second time.
I put on my clothes with a weakened spirit.
I quickly boiled the hell out of yesterday's food.
I swallowed each spoon while overthinking.
8am lectures?! Oh no I have to be there 30 minutes before the lecturer comes in.
I cleaned my shoes, it was tired, another day of trekking might begin when the need arises.
You all think I am flexing, but no you are not in my shoes!!
With the fluctuating prices of fuel, the driver called a price to which I refused.
With many other drivers passing me bye,
I said to my shoes "Old taker! I guess it's time"
"Boos abeg!" It replied
"E no far, we go soon reach" I asserted.
Sometimes I get lucky and see someone who drops me off for free.
I attend each and every lecture possible.
Nigeria is failing and the students are suffering the most.
I get to the lecture hall a little bit late and the door is locked.
Without sympathy, the lecturers rather teach an empty class.
But not giving up yet,
By the grace of God I will use the faded colours of grey and black to paint a beautiful picture.
The government really failed!🥀
