Indigenous day of grief
Let’s decolonize this space
And give some meaning
To this mournful day
For many it is a day of thanks
To indulge and take place
In a history erased
For others it’s to embrace
Bring attention to say
How their peoples became
Killed and betrayed
Raped and displaced
Colonized on display
And then slowly replaced
By people with no connection
To the land or the culture
And now we’re in the future
Stuffing our faces around a table
Sitting over the corpses of those before
And many give thanks as they are ignored
Take a moment before celebrating
To acknowledge those that today
Are grieving…
