Tantrum Midsummer

© The cicadas scream in unison
They hum like electricity,
which rises with equal intensity to that of the sweltering heat.
The Flys are greatly hated by all other living things.
They buzz in my hair and my eyes.
My dogs have become good at eating the slow ones, snapping them out of the air.
I ruffle their ears and tell them
"Good dogs!"

The heat is pinching my cheeks, the back of my neck and my knees.
Sweat slips down my face in a no winner race, quick to sting my eyes with my bodys own salt.
It burns almost as bad as the Sun.
Sweltering, popsicle melting, mascara running,
skin tries fighting back with a tan.
I look at my soda can, and we sweat in unison.
When I brought my umbrella,
I brought portable shade.
The weather always throws a sweltering tantrum just before it unleashes a storm. Rights Reserved
