Blinds drawn shut
From the outside looking in
As if to enter the hall requests a pin

Shades left open
As though the house forgot
Or maybe planned to lead the soul to rot

How could one know
Walking a path to Rome
That the journey wouldn't end in a home

*
A window cracked open
Words leaking through
In language familiar, yet always new

A door unlocked
The chance of love not lost
Through even set plainly, there is a cost

Speak as she may
Try as she might
Nothing would fruit from the plight

*
A seat at the table
Making room for an honor
Yet the title could only fit a scholar

A question to be answered
Said honestly would be wrong
Painting plainly that she doesn't belong

She speaks cautious
Not to give her heart away
For if they turn, where would she stay

*
The silence would be set
The seat would be taken
The door would lock to leave her shaken

Blinds again shut
Just a peephole remaining
Cast in the cold, every effort draining

No matter the plea
She would be damned alone
Forever on the outside of her home
