Dob certificates vs 10th certificate
My topic is about the Dob certificate and the 10th result /marks sheet in Kashmir.
The 10th class marks sheet is deemed as a Dob certificate in numerous institutes and For various documents, especially in the passport office. Even if we provide them the original Dob certificate and hospital discharge certificate still the preference will be given to the 10th class certificate...
But the question is why the 10th class certificate is used as a Dob certificate in many departments.
I wanna share a few incidents which I encountered in life regarding 10th class Dob.
I was a student in 5 class and a young girl was delivering milk to our house. She was in 10th class .She skipped her education many times. When I joined my 11th class she was also a new student of the 11th class and her younger sister was in 12th and when I saw their Dob as per the 10th certificate her elder sister was younger than her little sister...They were three daughters and their parents enrolled them in govt school together. They were in the same batch and class... And they have the same DOB in documents when in reality they have 3 3-year age gap....Most of the time school authorities match students with batch....When I was in school I didn't attend some yearly classes. I was in k1 I skipped k2 not because I was intelligent but because the roll of the students was not enough for the class they mingled kg2 and kg3 and the school authorities did it many times .They did this mingling of classes three times..and then in 10thclass they matched my Dob with the batch. Now as per my school Dob I was born 2 years before the nikah of my parents I went to Budgam board many times. They took my marks sheet and then said we lost it after 6 months of struggle and travel from school to board I found my marks sheet and I remained silent I couldn't raise my voice further because I was tired.
One of my classmates was my senior .She met with an accident and joined the school after two years and her elder sister was in the same school She was 3 years older than her but now as per 10th class Dob their age gap is only 2 months...
My cousins who used to carry me on their shoulders and lap are younger than me as per documents.
When I was in school we didn't have DOB certificates There was no concept of DOB certificates. It was not compulsory at all but now kids have DOB certificates still preference will be given to their 10th class certificate. It is considered an authentic document as compared to the Dob certificate
But the question is most of the students are helpless. They don't have any support from school authorities or parents. Some parents are not educated they don't pay attention due to a lack of knowledge but the question is what to do??.
