(Love Exasperated) A Drowning Poem
(Love Exasperated) A Drowning Poem 10/20/17
Your fire
was extinguished
before I could ignite it.
Splash, splash
Raindrops put out the flame,
so you say...
but teardrops would seem to be better reasoning.
Splash, splash
Drowning out laughter
and/ or it's echo.
Blurring vision of grandeur.
Tisk, tisk
Splash, splash
Soapy water from a bucket
thrown out onto the cobblestones
Scrub those tear stained steps
Splash, splash
Cold drinking water races down my throat
Splash
Perspiration from my forehead,
drips down my face.
Splash, splash
Raindrops tapping against the skylight,
settling into a rhythmic crescendo with the beat of my heart; visceral.
From the trestle the pebble is cast into the river below-
Splash.
