Fireflies
I met a firefly today as I walked through the park,
It landed gently on my finger and began to spark,
'How are you so happy in the face of approaching death?'
'Because I met you, my dear,' it said, with its last breath.
'Why do you continue to glow when there's no one to watch anymore?'
'I am doing it for you, to light your path and keep you sure.'
'Why don't you fade out, firefly? What are you waiting for?'
'For you, my dear, I am waiting, and will wait forevermore.'
'Does it surprise you, little human, to hear that you are my purpose?'
'To meet you was my destiny, to light your way through the surface.'
'I am but insignificant, a mere mortal in this world.'
'To me, you are everything, my dear, and my glowing love to you unfurled.'
'Are there others like you, firefly, who love and are taken away too soon?'
'Yes, my dear, they are like me, and we call them fireflies, too.'
'Fireflies who light up our lives, shining bright and true.'
'Fireflies who guide us through the dark, and help us make it through.'
'Even when the light fades, don't hesitate to reach out.'
'For they are waiting, my dear, to love you without a doubt.'
The firefly lights up, with a fierce and vibrant glow,
Taking flight, it soars away, leaving stardust in its wake to show.
My little firefly, made of stars, it gave me hope and light,
To guide me through life's dark times, and make my world so bright.
