I’ve grown up in church
all my life and yet,
you fill me with fear
because what if I’m different
from the people inside your walls
Cussing, dark and raunchy
humor, and tattoos
Probably don’t exist there
It’d be best to hold my tongue
than to set it on fire
What if I look more like
the world than Jesus?
Who I’m struggling to believe in
because the resurrection could
be too good to be true
or just a lie
or non-existent
But for what it’s worth,
I hope the God I pray to is real
