Mercy
The road to recovery is a dusty, bone-breaking, soul-crushing walk pretending to be a pilgrimage
Halfway through I loosened the chains
Another half way I finally lost them
But their shadow seems to weigh me down still
The path before me flimmering and steaming in the heat my body generates
All while trying to get rid of the scars
Before realising that getting rid of them isn't what recovery's supposed to do
That acceptance is so much harder than the imagined status quo
I chased after a fickle picture of being whole
Never once checking if it was meant for me
