A Tragic Love Story

A Tragic Love Story

She emerged from home jubilant,
Full of verve and ebullient,
With the newfound freedom
From her dark and crowded kingdom.

Out of her home and in the air,
She crossed the fields with no care,
Enjoying her day in the open
Like animals freed from the pen.

It became dark soon after
When died the jollity and laughter,
Lights began to glow at windowsills
Of the houses scattered in the hills.

She saw a bright dancing flame
And was at once drawn to the same,
Fluttering her wings at great speed
She flew across the sprawling mead.

Closer and closer she moved towards the light
Which in its prime glowed very bright,
She had lost her heart to the dancing flame,
She could not her turbulent heart tame.

The flame had watched her in flight
And her rushing towards the window straight,
The flame too was charmed by her
And in love was ready to surrender.

But as she like a dart flew
Giving to her intentions no clue,
The flame thought it was better
To instantly warn and stop her.

"Keep thyself off from me
Alive if thou want to be,
So close we can't ourselves tie
If we do so, we surely die.

We can't let ourselves unite
To live together day and night
Platonic love is the only key
It is how we are destined to be."

Unheeding the warning and the anguished cry,
Stubbornly she continued to fly,
Spurred on further by love blind-
Love of a very unique kind.

Alarmed, the flame cried out " 'Stop'
For the love of thy life 'stop' " ,
But the lass would not heed
And flew at lightning speed.

In a rush of overpowering passion
And in a most desparing fashion,
She flew headlong into the flame,
Oh, What an unthinking dangerous game!

Her body singed when she cried
While in unison the flame died,
Neither the flame nor she survived,
As they could never be revived.
