October Muse
At those moments when I feel like giving up on life,
I close my eyes,
I see a distant sun hanging up above a tranquil sea
I see the sparkling waves reflected in my eyes
I see sunlight passing through my fingers
I see the warm sea breeze playing with my hair,
the breeze that brings along with it the dusty smell of ruined towns.
I turn around and see buildings old and streets busied by shiny happy people.
The spices sprinkled on dishes cooked,
I can taste them in my mouth.
I hear howls and whispers of creatures unknown.
I turn again,
I see mountains so tall that they touch the skies,
adorned by flowers blooming in all shades earth has ever seen.
I look down and see the snow covering and climbing up my feet
I look up and see the rainbow bent in a thousand splendid colors.
I turn and turn and turn...
I see galaxies and beyond.
I see stardust and ashes.
I see fractions of forgotten dreams and memories.
I see all that life can offer.
I see all that I have ever seen and all that I'm yet to see.
Its at those moments I feel the ache,
an ache for distant places.
The ache that reminds me that I'm still alive,
that it's too soon and too late to give up.
