Today I wrote a song for you,
the notes were out of tune.
I strummed it on my heartstrings,
to a melody you knew.
The chorus reached above the stars,
into the stratosphere.
The vocals were so beautiful,
I sang it through my tears.
The verses were written into stone,
the words were gentle flames.
The name I gave that simple song,
was "Take Away the Pain".
Your ears heard something different,
something you could barely comprehend.
It was the music of a million souls,
who fought bravely to the end.
If you remembered every chord,
and note that sat upon these bars.
Would you still let me sing to you,
from the front seat of your car.
Or would you leave me in the dust,
in this deserted little town.
And if you did would you find in this, the regret to turn around.
I know this isn't easy,
how we got here we've yet to see.
That somehow this road onto perdition.
is the road that sets you free.
