A MAIDEN OF TIME
On the pathway to Oldendorf
Stood a maiden of time;
There she was day and night
Looking as ever at ease.

Many days and nights passed
And there she was unpertubed;
Alas my heart to hers drew
Like a magnet of destiny!

Yet for the fear of past ills
I chose not to care for a while;
But soon the hands of time was past
And I came up with a plan.

So as honest as honest is,
I came to this maiden of time;
There at her feet I cast my thoughts
And in her smiles buried my words.

I went back home so empty,
Albeit, so proud of myself--
Thinking that in the days to come
I and the maiden should be knit.

But poor my luck once again,
A tale was about to repeat itself:
For there on the pathway to Oldendorf
My maiden of time was gone!
