Payment (Poem Prompt 54)
#WritcoPoemPrompt54
“I feel my heart is wrenching and ask myself is it all worth it? The pain... the crying... the anguish...”
Not for me, yet. But it was worth it for you, it had to be, to keep what we had when we began.
The tears were all yours, from eyes that had been told they were beautiful, so you had the confidence to cry.
But I paid our way out, because you were too afraid of paying our way forward. It had to be my image or yours.
I haven’t decided if this was a betrayal yet, for trading in what you swore to protect;
But I suppose you chose the lesser evil
to stand by the larger vow.
