This side of my skin is raw
it has scars,
it is bruised,
it is battered
it is broken.
this side of my skin had lost faith in everyone
it bleeds with anger
it cries with rage
it is giving up
but so is everyone's skin on the outside.
for it is what others embrace and reject first
and it is what we choose to show to others
but no one knows how blessed is the inside of this skin
it is blessed with beauty
blessed with strength
blessed with love
with adversity it survives
it's faith restored
it's hope grows
it sings ancient songs of our God's
tells stories of worlds untouched
its ink, the blood that rushes into every inch of us
bidding us to go on when we don't feel like it
pushing us forward
asking us to live and love again...
and deep inside our core we know
the inside of this skin is who I wish they knew
who we wish they met
who we wish they loved
because that is truly who we are
the inside of this skin wants us to go on
Even when the outside is torn to pieces
go on eve when the outside is falling apart.
