before and after
when in my soul, it started storming
there came a gale unpreceded by warning
by the same four winds that kick up dust and grass,
i had youth torn from my innocent grasp.
i'm catapulted now into the after;
where the world is spinning
the earth is orbiting faster.
no time to live and no time to die
"freedom from youth" was the cruelest lie.
for i blinked once and i had grown old
and now the world i know is cold.
the anvil i loathe dropped between my shoulders
the mountains i climb while dodging boulders
every day is a trial, every choice is a test
this tempest ravages my core and won't let me rest.
i can chase the scraps of paper
of the story a little girl penned;
but she didn't finish her sentence
she wasn't ready for the end.
