The New Me
#WritcoPoemPrompt115
Threw out old boxes,
Regrets and photographs,
Empty pockets and lockets,
Everything that is connected to who I once was,
I find solace in opening a new page, I embrace this new stage,
But deep within my scars lies tales of who I once was,
The mistakes, the sin, the misunderstood blemishes abundant in my past,
Some things aren't easy to run away from like I'm in a cage,
I've found the will to become a new me, freedom at last.
But society then decided that I was unworthy of forgiveness, greeted with rage.
A daunting task it was to forgive myself,
with closed heart and arms, penance must be paid.
from whence then would I begin, I ask?
One step forward, a thousand steps back like a journey to the ice age.
However, I keep moving forward, opening the leaves of my new page.
