Inferno
Thrumming
like a hummingbird's wings
reined behind bars aflamed
a hammering mound
slowly stiffens
a cry

Pale and long
shadows upon windows
shambling monochrome films
shriveling in fire, light straying
through the bush of lashes
a scythe

Behind me, standing
who stole the breathe?
purged from the lungs, air like lead
flushing ears, drowning chimes
saltiness burning remnants of
a sky

Stakes upon souls
on pale horses, notes strung
piercing through the sun
like trembling wattle gold
her swinging locks
a corpse

Ashes, stench afloat
sticky strands off murky waters
songs forgone, muffled by
chomping, gobbling of fowls
fattening worms
a reverse

Inferno.
