~ SECOND TIME AROUND ~
You can still see where the water was,
In a line at the top of the chimney bricks.
No wonder, we never saw it topple our boat.
So, we jumped on to each other with our suitcases and started labelling love.
Love, that was shared with you and me.
Love, that was for us and not just for you and me.
We took off then, in search for another home.
Cause in our hearts we knew that,
We always build it better the second time around.
I drove past the place where we used to live,
Where you said you never wanted kids.
Where we lay naked and made love or threw big vitriolic words at each other with the intent to kill.
Sometimes,
something so broken, can never be fixed
Your love and warmth will always be missed.
And with the pile of regrets and cherished memories
That I set fire to in my backyard,
I started my recovery with a hope
That I will build it better this time around.
Now I'm sleeping more and eating again,
I'm starting over like a rehab ridden junkie.
I build my defense, so tight and impervious,
with the layers of Gin and whiskey at night.
But then again, nobody told me it would be this hard,
Nobody told me that my defense will crumble like a house of cards.
Nobody told me,
It wouldn't be any different even if,
I build it second time around.
