The Great Divide

Look into my eyes
See the questions deep inside
See the pain that tears at my heart
Feel the sorrow that drowns me

Tell me that you’ll never leave
Tell me that you’ll stay
Tell me all the reasons why
It’s in my bed you lay

I feel your arms around me
But I still have to know
If you found somebody new
Would you let me go

You tell me that you need me
And I’m the only one
You tell me that I have your heart
And that you’ll never run

Yet, you keep things bottled up inside and
You won’t say what you feel
So, how do we make this work
If you can’t keep it real

I lay on my side of the bed
And cry myself to sleep
And when you think no one is listening
Sometimes I hear you weep

You ask me to be real with you
But, I don’t think it’s fair
For you to ask me to do something
That you refuse to share

It hurts to think that you don’t trust me
With what is bothering you
But, I can’t help you get past the pain
If you don’t let me through

So open up your heart
And let me see inside
Let me see what I can do
To close this great divide.
