Thankful
I'm thankful for the top and the bottom
For all four seasons— winter through autumn
For dicey slaloms— for silky smooth rides
For small leaps— large bounds— for long-legged strides
I'm thankful for uphill climbs— downhill falls
For lost marbles and lightning-fast recalls
For rich soil— the white rose— for my keen nose
The days passed and the coming tomorrows

I'm thankful for love, but it seems to hate
Perhaps that's just all the people I date
But either way, with thanks I'm chalked quite full
For cotton— silk— softened leather— warm wool
I'm thankful for all three sides of the mint
For both pocket money and pocket lint
For the polite— the shy kind— those with tude
I can think of much I've failed to include

Like the cold days— the hot— the snow— the rain
How I was fit to break my kinfolks chain
I'm thankful for fancy pens— writing pads
For the difference between gals and lads
For the contrary betwixt you and I
For birds of jet black that call as they fly
For flightless birds— for the brightest birds too
For sappy maple— for solid bamboo

For sticky honey made by busy bees
For soft creamy goat and aged cattle cheese
For both this and that— for pet dogs and cats
For silent periods and controlled spats
Could rhyme for days 'bout how thankful I am
For tomato jelly— for bacon jam
I'm thankful for every single thought
I'm thankful af— believe it or not
