The evolution of porn and male sexuality
Many of you out there reading this probably don’t remember the days before the Internet. At risk of sounding like an old man
you guys missed out on a lot in my opinion. You reached those formative years of masturbation with access to pretty much any kind of porn you could ask for, where’s the male bonding in that?

Most of us of an older generation didn’t have that free and easy access. Can you imagine? lol

Back before the late 90’s we had VHS tapes and magazines, sometimes bought, most of the time “borrowed”. My own experience of porn was directed by my best mate at the time, a guy who had a stack of porn magazines from his brother, we used to spend a couple of hours a week getting our dicks out and wanking off over pics of big cocks plunging into wet pussies. Some of those magazines were so well-used their pages were stuck together.

I remember seeing my friend squirting cum all over one of his favourite pages and wiping up his mess before having to leave the magazine open to dry out, just so the pages didn’t stick together and destroy one of his best mags. That was the curse of the porn mag owner; one spot of cum splashed on a page and missed in the cleanup could lead to that page being forever gone.

I’ve heard countless stories of guys discovering porn in their in between there brother’s mattress, or in the back of their dad’s closet, or hidden in the garage. Many got theirs from a friend who stole theirs from a brother or dad. Unless you had a friend like mine, porn back then was pretty hard to find, and you always made do with what you got.

The upside is that this lack of access to porn forced guys together, it made porn a commodity for sharing, an opportunity for socializing.

It encouraged young men to be more open and honest about their sexuality with each other, in some respects. While fewer would ever have been open about what they enjoyed beyond the expected (pussy), it led to a lot of opportunities for guys to enjoy this experience together and become used to comparing their cocks, showing off their skills and talents to each other.

It was fun for us. There was a lot of competition between us, seeing who was harder, thicker, longer, who could shoot the furthest, the most, the fastest…

Most guys of my generation probably had at least the opportunity to share porn with a close friend and wank one out together. In fact, most of us did exactly that, countless times.

If you were the friend with the porn you had to endure your other friends around you wanting to see it, but it was something that made you the most popular guy. If you were the one without you would find any opportunity to convince your mate to get those magazines out or put that video on. Some might have had the friend who was willing to lend you a magazine, which you’d then promise to treat with absolute care before stuffing it in your bag and sneaking it into the house, terrified that every expression on your face was betraying you to your parents.

Based on what I’ve learned from my own jerk off buddies in my own age group now, they all had similar experiences.

It usually started with finding porn mags from somewhere, usually stealing them from a relative, browsing through them together, then one brave participant getting their cock out for a jerk, the other joining in. Some guys had that friend who was totally brazen with their cock. They’d haul it out and swing it around proudly. Others had mates who would secretly wank, hunched over and scared that their friend/s might see. Most of the time it seems these friendly antics resulted in open and shameless wanking, eventually.

Of course, this rarely led to swapping cocks back then, this wasn’t about being that daring for most of us. Even though we would get off on the sight of our friend’s hard and hairy cock being wanked, the foreskin sliding around, the cum gushing out, there was always the pretense of our enjoyment being entirely about the pussy on the pages in front of us. Of course, we all know now that every guy involved was checking out the cock around them.

I can guarantee that all the friends I jacked off with back then have a thing for jacking with guys right now, even if they don’t live out that desire with the friends they now have.

This seems to be the common scenario for so many guys, and I wonder if this has now been lost as a result of the Internet.

Do guys these days have that same opportunity to share porn in the way we did in the 90’s and before? I don’t think so. These days porn is enjoyed in isolation. While guys might talk about it, or share links, videos and images through messages and so on, they’re rarely doing so in the same room as each other or finding the chance to watch it together, and the opportunity or need to experience that shared wank is rarely found unless it’s actively sought out.

These days, it seems to me, it has to be more of a conscious choice to do so. The circumstances to create the experience entirely incidentally are not there.

It’s not all negative, though.

Thanks to the Internet more and more guys are discovering that their sexuality is not what they would have expected. While guys of my age had to make do with the same porn, all the time, guys these days can get on-line and see girl-on-girl, MMF threesomes, bisexual porn, guys jacking off, gay porn, orgies, everything
Guys these days are realizing much earlier that they have an appreciation for something other than what’s expected of them. While guys of my generation, pre-Internet, had more opportunities to share wanks with their friends, the reasons for doing so were a lie, and we still conformed to the same unspoken contract where guys only enjoyed the pussy in front of them and totally ignored the other cock in the room, or at least made every excuse to make it not about that other cock while still enjoying it.

Does that make sense?

Guys these days don’t have that pressure to conform in the same way we did, they’re not led down a certain path and told that’s the way it should be. These days young men of that age can get on the Internet and instantly see gay, straight or bi porn. They can discover, very quickly, that the sight of other guys enjoying their cock is something they enjoy, something they want to experience. The labels are far less defined these days, and that can only be a good thing.

For us, even though we had the experiences of wanking over porn mags with our mates, those porn mags were always the same, always girls solo or girls being fucked. Occasionally you might see one photo of a girl sucking two guys, but that was the closest any of us would ever get to anything even remotely male-on-male.

So, has there been a trade-off, and is it a good one?

Young men now have far more opportunities to learn about their sexuality and what turns them on, but far fewer opportunities to find themselves sharing it with a friend.

In an ideal world we would have both, and that’s really what this site is about, isn’t it? We want that closeness between friends, we want the opportunity to enjoy porn with each other the way we did back then, with the added bonus of having such a wealth of entertainment at our fingertips. If we could combine the experience of having wanking friends with the wealth of porn out there, everything would be great.

I suppose, really, the Internet has provided much more of an education to men, and ultimately this can only be a good thing. While they might not find themselves wanking over porn with a friend late at night just through necessity, they do have much more opportunity to discover that’s something they want to experience, and greater opportunity to meet someone interested in the same thing.

What do you think, has the internet improved things for young men interested in masturbation, or done more to distance men from each other?
