Strength
My people have brown skin
and brown eyes
dark hair, Motherland ties
attacked on their land with genocide,
so glad the British were brought to light
when the Queen died
concentration camps, attacking their minds
and the ones in America are simply trying to survive
so much hate,
we didn’t even ask to be here
but systematic oppression
keeps us poor,
it’s hard for us to leave here
you tell us to go home
give us the money to leave here
we built this country for free,
records of children who were deemed
useless and weak
burned alive to the third degree
this truth bothering you? it should be
black women objectified and raped,
hell the culture still carried out to this day
and all we can tell eachother is
it’s gon be okay
you just gotta pray you’ll be kept safe
o i dey pray
every single day
i pray for the strength
to be pure through the disdain
to not lose my heart to selfish hate
attacked in broad day
the police aren’t even on the way
o i dey pray
my sisters and i see better days
oh i dey pray the men remember from where
they came
warriors who protected their women,
vowed to stay true to one single name
did not pollute the population
with reckless, uncaring aim
we did not come here to be alone
love can mend the cracks in any soul
sometimes you have to be willing to be bold
your strength my love, it is Gold.
