#WritcoPoemPrompt41
Write a poem including as many of the following words (or variations on these words) as you like:
solecisms, connectome, recidivous, calico, performs.

At the first ball of the season
I donned a colourful dress
made sure nothing was missing
and tried not to stress

At the peak of dawn
I arrived in splendour
then there was a whisper
"What a cheap calico gown"

Down plunged my serenity
I tried not to let it get to me
The whispers the jeers were a summary
To them, I will always be an oddity

"young madam will you dance with me"
"yes" I replied in utmost glee
we danced till the fourth song was to play
reluctantly parted though we wished to stay

I glimpsed at his graceful form ever so often
and found his cold eyes wander to mine
with flushed cheeks, I gave a small smile
like blooming spring he seemed to soften

"I can not believe it, how scandalous"
once again the whispers soon returned
"She is loose and ever so recidivous"
but this time the whispers at heart I spurned

Eventually, the last toast was made
And he, I found, had already left
perhaps it was wishful to think him my fate
Departing the summer ball, I was bereft

A little servant called me to come down
I descended in a gown so soft
in the parlour, father smiled like a clown
Finally able to marry me off

To the marriage I was loathe to agree
turning to my groom I was shocked to see
My man from the ball down on one knee
saying "will you marry me"
