If We Cross Paths
Well, if we were to cross paths,
Even though it would not desirable,
We would probably ignore and laugh,
With our friends even if we were at the same table,

We might occasionally glance out of curiosity,
At the other's pretend felicity,
As the pain pierces our hearts,
Because of our past,

A past that had an ugly ending,
One filled with hate, the other tired of apprehending,
If only we could have talked it out and know what had happened,
What we were unaware of about each other before things have ended,

If only we realised that,
It was never about bearing,
Because the only things that were needing,
Were trust and respect,

If only we realised that,
It was never about inability to give,
But how to take or when to give,

If only, oh, if only we realised that,
It was never about being compatible or not,
But only about care, communication and effort,

If only we stopped for a second and opened each other's mind,
Perhaps the next time we meet,
We might smile and let each other be...
