Redemption
When a friend recently told me to never change,
It sounded unfamiliar in the same sentence as my name.
When I receive compliments others make,
I’ve begun to accept the ones they gave.
Understand, this self esteem has been typically insecure,
Because of actions and thoughts innately impure.
If left to idle in consistent seclusion,
The result is an exhibition of maladjusted solutions,
Drug dependence and psychotic inducement.
My local reputation was spoken of as a warning sign,
What drug abuse does to us all over time.
Fortunate are few to rectify such a life.
There is plenty of flaws left to be undone.
Memories still appear of wrongs long forgotten of.
I chose peace after years of being at war.
No longer at battle with myself anymore.
