Revellers Love
Old watery whisky eyes amidst the wrinkles
Look out onto a world turned stark and strange
Laughter with the jukebox music tinkles
When did the sights and sounds begin to change
Was it ten or was it twenty maybe thirty years before
Life was a jolly game I loved to play
Party times a plenty and a revelling galore
God knows I never thought I'd have to pay
A bitter tear escaped from Wells of sorrow
Running wrinkled furrows mournfully ingrained
All around they revelled never thinking of tomorrow
Unaware he's there among them in his pain
I had friends I had sweethearts I was the party beast
I was the athlete and virile like a bull
An act of rough and toughness as if I cared the least
Underneath my front I was a fool
Through unshed tears and smoke appeared a vision
A face from way back yonder long ago
He loved her he promised he made of her his mission
When the cards went on the table he answered no
I refused to settle and become a family man
I did not want convention but to roam
I shirked my promise and off to hell I ran
Never to know the warmth of children or a home
The face approached closer his blur began to clear
It was her but not a vision flesh and blood
She is old and beaten she spoke and called him dear
Her sound released his dammed up tears to flood
It's her my darling who shares my dreams each night
Who I try to cast from thought but fail each day
She's sitting beside me I am petrified with fright
Please God I beg you beg you make her stay
She smiled a gentle smile of yellow teeth
Blue eyes so patient and kind express her pain
She grieved and buried him forever with a wreath
Never to dream one day they'd meet again
Such pain I'v caused is written on her face
She smiles and looks at me with eyes of love
Is any decency left in me even a small trace
I pray God grants me favour from heaven above
Her frail old hands slowly found his face
To brush away the tears that flowed so free
Then with a move quite full of spiritual grace
She slowly kissed him on the lips so tenderly
This feeling oh so long I'v missed this feeling
The goodness oozes from her Godly soul
It's curing me mending me restoring and a healing
My God I pray she'll stay so we'll be whole
