The comedy of life
comes out of the in between.

In between the bouts of heavy sighs,
a spill of milk accompanied by a small, “Oh no,” and a doe-eyed stare.

In between the turmoil,
a loose diaper on the floor, and a child free of containment.

In between the devastating intrusive thoughts,
a dog that eats the food I slaved over for my son who giggles at the sight.

In between the exhausted lack of sleep, lack of motivation, lack of self,
a new milestone met.

In between the millisecond bathroom sit, and overstimulated internal screaming,
an unprompted hug from a little one.

And I can't help but laugh a deep belly laugh,
a laugh that energizes this tired bag of bones.
